Reports to National Major Gifts Officer
OVERALL SUMMARY
The Regional Major Gifts Officer is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of major donors ($1000+) in the Pacific Northwest (PNW), with special emphasis on Portland and Seattle. The incumbent identifies and solicits gifts from new prospects as well as from current major donors. The Regional Major Gifts Officer is also responsible for cultivating and advancing donors at all levels, based on an assessment of their potential giving capacity and is responsible for managing stewardship activities with all PNW donors..
POSITION FUNCTIONS
- In conjunction with the National Major Gifts Officer, set annual major gift goals for their portfolio of donors and monitor progress toward achievement of goals throughout the year.
- Design and implement individual plans and strategies to cultivate, advance and successfully solicit major gifts from donor prospects and current donors of $1000+ on an annual basis. Most solicitations will occur face to face. Engage GDB staff, CEO and members of the PNW Advisory Committee in this process as appropriate.
- Prepare written proposals for donors, with appropriate staff, arrange and conduct campus tours, coordinate visits by puppy raisers and GDB alumni and bring key donors to graduations and other GDB events.
- Steward donors by sending personalized gift acknowledgement notes and birthday cards, organizing and presenting a regional NHSDC recognition event and arranging appropriate donor recognition.
- Ensure that all data on donors is entered into Raiser's Edge on a timely and accurate basis.
- Develop and manage donor-hosted events to raise awareness, fundraise, identify and cultivate new donors throughout the PNW region.
- Organize follow-up strategies for all major donor prospects attending GDB events in the region. Assist PNW staff in presenting general GDB events in the region which will draw current and potential major donors.
- Adhere to our organization's safety policies and procedures and encourage others to do the same. Promptly report incidents and accidents according to campus procedures.
- Maintain regular communication with National Major Gifts Officer, through weekly written or emailed reports, face-to-face meetings no less than every six weeks or regularly scheduled phone meetings, as determined by National Major Gifts Officer.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a current resident of the greater Portland area with demonstrated, established professional, business and/or social contacts with community leaders and affluent individuals throughout the PNW.
- At least three years of experience soliciting and successfully obtaining individual donations in the 5-figure range and above.
- Track record of attaining challenging annual fundraising goals.
- Working knowledge of Development structure and theory as well as principles of gift planning, as demonstrated by at least 3 years of general Development experience.
- Demonstrated ability to establish successful professional relationships with individual donors (especially elderly individuals), community volunteers, Board members, community volunteers and staff as well as demonstrated ability to cultivate and advance donors
- Excellent oral and written communications skills and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel required; familiarity with Raiser's Edge software highly preferable
- Knowledge of disability or animal issues a plus
- Able to travel regularly, both locally and throughout the PNW region. Attendance at evening and weekend events required
- Able to provide own administrative support
- Undergraduate degree required.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
This is a full-time, exempt position. Incumbent will be based at GDB's Boring, Oregon facility and will also use space at our downtown Portland Center. Pay is commensurate with experience and includes benefits.
