Jane Flower, Outreach manager
Jane Flower began her current position as Outreach manager at Guide Dogs for the Blind (www.guidedogs.com) in April of this year, and is excited to be a part of this wonderful organization. Jane was born legally blind, and at the age of 8 was diagnosed with a retinal degenerative eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). She received her current and second Guide Dog Anja in June of 2009. As Outreach Manager, she and Anja travel throughout the U.S. and Canada sharing the mission and vision of Guide Dogs as well as her personal experiences as a visually impaired person to prospective Guide Dog users and professionals in the field of low-vision.
Jane has an MS degree in Gerontology from California State University Fullerton. She worked with older adults in the field of low-vision for over 11 years at her previous job as Program Supervisor for the Aging with Vision Loss Program at the Dayle McIntosh Center in Southern California. This position afforded her the opportunity to share her personal and professional knowledge on such topics as Daily Living Skills, Assistive Technology, Braille Reading and Writing, and Self-Advocacy Training.
