The Fine Print... (Event Details)
Is your puppy ready for a rodeo?
Fun Day can be a crowded, loud and tiring event for puppies (and people alike!). Please consider your puppy's temperament, regardless of age, when deciding whether this event will be appropriate for their attendance and/or to determine their level of participation. You may want to plan a shorter day or take advantage of the crates we will provide in the rest area. Puppies are encouraged to proudly wear their Guide Dog puppy coats.
Sorry, No Career Change or Personal Dogs
Unfortunately, due to the size of the event, only active Guide Dog puppies and working Guide Dogs can be accommodated.
Puppy Boarding in California
There are a limited number of puppy boarding openings available in our California and Oregon kennels during Fun Day week. Please contact the California Kennel Reception Office at (415) 499-4087 or Oregon at (503) 668-2137 to make your boarding reservation. At both Fun Days, we will have "puppy rest spots" where tired puppies can go for a nice, quiet break.
Dogs in Training
Unfortunately, dogs that are currently in the training program cannot be visited. Please realize that the dogs in training would be very excited to see their raisers, families or leaders, but would not understand why you aren't taking them home. Visits can set back a dog's progress, and we do not want to jeopardize any training. We also ask that you do not attempt to visit the kennels or ask fellow participants, staff or volunteers to take photos.
Veterinary Check-ups
Appointments will be available in the veterinary clinics on the Friday morning prior to Fun Day. If you think your pup needs to be examined by our vets, please discuss your concerns with your leader prior to Fun Day. Please do not call the vet clinic. Your leader and CFR will review your concerns. Your CFR will then contact the veterinary clinic for input and schedule an appointment if needed. Note: appointments will not be available on Fun Day.
Club Vendor Information
Club vendor booths are a great way to raise funds for your club! You could sell dog toys, club or theme-related items or snacks. If your club is interested in selling drinks during lunch at the California Fun Day, your club's name will be entered into a drawing and one club will be randomly selected to participate.
*NEW!* Due to the recent changes in policy prohibiting raffles and opportunity drawings, we have arranged for a central Silent Auction location on each campus. Puppy clubs can provide items for this auction in addition to, or in place of, having a separate club vendor booth.
If your club would like to have a vendor booth or participate in the Silent Auction at Fun Day, please contact Sharon Kret in the Puppy Raising Office at (800) 295-4050 or skret@guidedogs.com to reserve your spot.
Follow the Instructor
If you are interested in observing licensed instructors train dogs for guidework, please contact Sharon Kret in the Puppy Raising Office at (800) 295-4050 or skret@guidedogs.com to reserve your spot. This opportunity will be offered in the days prior to Fun Day on each campus. Please note that this activity involves brisk walking with our trainers and dogs. Priority will be given to those who have been unable to participate in the past.
