A Budding Fundraiser

Sloane Lanham, a 4th grade student at the Westminster School in Atlanta, Ga., recently organized a fun run, called "Paws on Pavement," to benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind. Sloane is quite the organizer. She submitted a grant to the Westminster School's Glenn Institute to help underwrite the expense of race; contacted local businesses to contribute food and monetary sponsorship; utilized school equipment to help facilitate the race; and held a school-wide assembly to promote the race within the student body. She also got local media to promote the event. More than 140 people participated, including local GDB grad Peggy Brown with her guide dog Yolanda. The event raised more than $9,700.

This is the 2nd year for the fun run. Last year, Sloane raised over $6000 and used the donation to name a GDB puppy. She bestowed the name Scooter to the pup, in honor of a recently retired school administrator.

Thank you so much to Sloane and her philanthropic spirit! Her generosity and passion are so appreciated, and we thank her for her support of our mission.
