GDB Client Training and Follow-Up Services
At GDB, we are committed to pairing the right dog with the right person. Our extensive training ensures that the team is compatible in every area, from communication styles to personalities. The newly-matched team spends two weeks learning to work together in a variety of real-life situations.
GDB’s extensive follow-up program and alumni support services are the most comprehensive of their kind, including everything from phone consultation, personal home visits, education, networking, and many things in between! Our commitment to you continues through the working life of your guide dog, your dog's retirement, and beyond.

When you apply to get a guide dog from GDB, you're taking a big step. Throughout the application process, we'll have a chance to learn more about you: your goals, desires, and lifestyle. GDB staff will help you understand your responsibilities in preparing for class training and in handling and caring for a guide dog. Upon acceptance, our professional staff will work with you to develop a course of training that is most relevant to your needs.
Youth Programs at Guide Dogs for the Blind
While our primary guide dog programs serve adults, Guide Dogs for the Blind also seeks out ways to engage youth who are blind or visually impaired wherever possible. Our two programs, K9 Buddies and Camp GDB, were developed to provide kids and their families an opportunity to begin to explore the guide dog lifestyle at a young age.
